Marks and Spencer opened in La Cañada
Marks & Spencer (M&S) is a major British retailer with over 885 stores
in more than 40 countries around the world. But there was none in
Spain. The company had stores in Spain before, in Madrid and Sevilla,
but closed it eight years ago. But with Marbella as a city with many
english people living here they want to try it again now and will use
the new store in La Cañada Shopping Centre as a pilot for further
expansion. The new store in Marbella is being established on a
franchise basis by the same company which has been in Gibraltar since
1968, which is York Marbella SL. The new shop is on the second floor
store in La Cañada, next to Benetton.
Making excellent use of the space, the 1.300 square metre shop
squeezes in a good selection of clothing, the ever popular lingerie,
home wear, gifts and children’s wear. Attracting more than its fair
share of interest was the food store, which although small, is packed
full of delicious British goodies including much of the ambient food
range, including teas, biscuits, crumpets, chocolate, competitively
priced wines, and a superb selection of frozen goodies, among them
many mouthwatering Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes. About three
million euros have been invested in the new Marbella store which will
employ between 50 and 70 people according to the time of the year.

Time to clear the air
After a hotter summer which continued right in to September her in Salobrena the air was ladened with small dust particles, pollution etc. after the rain at thebeginning of the week we now have very clear skies and crystal clear views.
Vern On Spain: GRANADA TAPAS BOOK - GOING, GOING...
Particularly useful book for tapas lovers here on the Costa Tropical.
Tapas is still very typical here on the Costa Tropical and whether you live here, own a holiday villa or are just exploring as a tourist I am sure you will enjoy it.

Some 20 people to be questioned over alleged planning irregularities in Almogía
Who is next? At least for once the mayor was not involved but I think he will be lonely when back at his now almost empty office!
Fortunately here on the Costa Tropical there has not been as much development as found elsewhere.
It's understood the Socialist Mayor is not on the list and is back at work after the Town Hall search

Motril Avenida Salobrena
For the last four or five months including the hot and dusty summer
the main road through the heart of Motril has been closed while they
widen it and lay new drainage and soakaways. Unfortunately there is no
end in sight and for the business along this stretch which must be
almost a kilometer in length must be suffering more than others in
these tough economic times

Autumn Arrives
Watching news reports on Spanish TV last week from Pamplona and
Vitoria where the reporters wore woollen scarves, hats, gloves and
thick winter coats served as a reminder that summer would not last
forever. Rain was predicted throughout southern Spain and so far
although we have not seen any rain the skies are grey and the air
cooler than during the previous months.

In the evening it is still possible to be out and about in just a
short sleeve shirt but not for much longer.

Snow in September
One of the advantages of the Costa Tropical properties that we have on Monte de los Almendros is that a good proportion of them have views of the snow throughout the winter months. (July and September are a little unusual to be able to enjoy this view)
Just a month after the last patches of snow disappeared from the mountains just behind the Costa Tropical in southern Spain the snow has returned on the highest peaks. Just visible on the western side of the mountains there were a number of suprised renters gazing at the mountains sunday afternoon. Unfortunately of the two cameras I had to hand neither were ideal for taking a good photo with a zoom.
Looking at our main website Salobrena Villas you will be able to see a number of better photographs of the snow in winter time.
