Costa Tropical Properties

Still relatively undiscovered and unspoiled, there is a great variety of Costa Tropical properties available on the coastline south of Granada and each town has its own distinctive atmosphere.

Spain has since the 1990s become synonymous with construction and over development, in 2008 it also became famous for the number of unfinished developments, corrupt mayors and planning officials and bankrupt developers. The image of abandoned building sites and tower cranes as far as the eye can see represents the impression created by a media hungry for news. The reality in Spain is somewhat different, while some areas have been overdeveloped there are other areas which have resisted the lure of overnight riches and have maintained an environment which represents the Spain that first attracted people here after the death of Franco.

With about 5000 km of coastline of which Andalucia accounts for 800 km it is not easy to find the less well known areas that do not cater to large influxes of foreign holiday makers and investors. The Costa Tropical has remained one of least publisized sections of coastline and due to a combination of local attitudes of politicians and mountainous terrain it has never attracted the attention of major developers and mass tourism is unknown.

There are a number of small towns along the 80 km of coastline which runs between the Costa del Sol and Almeria the most interesting of which (at least for discerning buyers of properties on the Costa Tropical) are Almuñecar, which includes a satellite town of La Herradura and Salobrena where we have a select number of Spanish villas for sale.

Almunecar has a mixture of apartments which are located mainly in the town and along the shoreline and villas which are in locations such a Cotobro and Punta de la Mona.

Salobrena is somewhat smaller than Almunecar and at its heart is a typical Spanish working town and along the beach area lowrise appartment buildings. On the hills to the west of the town is Monte de los Almendros a mature development of villas many with private swimming pools and stunning views.

Marks and Spencer opened in La Cañada

Marks & Spencer (M&S) is a major British retailer with over 885 stores
in more than 40 countries around the world. But there was none in
Spain. The company had stores in Spain before, in Madrid and Sevilla,
but closed it eight years ago. But with Marbella as a city with many
english people living here they want to try it again now and will use
the new store in La Cañada Shopping Centre as a pilot for further
expansion. The new store in Marbella is being established on a
franchise basis by the same company which has been in Gibraltar since
1968, which is York Marbella SL. The new shop is on the second floor
store in La Cañada, next to Benetton.

Making excellent use of the space, the 1.300 square metre shop
squeezes in a good selection of clothing, the ever popular lingerie,
home wear, gifts and children’s wear. Attracting more than its fair
share of interest was the food store, which although small, is packed
full of delicious British goodies including much of the ambient food
range, including teas, biscuits, crumpets, chocolate, competitively
priced wines, and a superb selection of frozen goodies, among them
many mouthwatering Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes. About three
million euros have been invested in the new Marbella store which will
employ between 50 and 70 people according to the time of the year.
